Think Outside the Classroom

A Growing Relationship by Holly Hill Farm owner Frank White, Jon Belber (Education Director, Friends of Holly Hill Farm), and Ted Hirsch (South Shore Charter Public School, Norwell MA) Available for purchase: $10.

A Growing Relationship is a curriculum guide for elementary school teachers written to integrate the school garden and classroom lessons.

Programs designed for school teachers and their classes.

This format includes a planning session with teachers and Friends’ staff prior to the program, and encourages post-farm activity, supplemented by classroom lessons designed by the teacher and aimed at school learning goals.

  • We advise participating teachers to include a minimum of two trips to the Farm in their curriculum design.
  • Consultations with schools and teachers are built into the fee structure.
  • Teachers are invited to bring snacks and/or picnic lunches.

Attendance Limits: Maximum 50 students per day.

Teaching Units: No more than 10-12 students per trained staff member.

Time: 2 hours at the Farm for younger groups and 3 hours for older groups.
