“Oh wow, look at that worm!” said the curious 3 year-old who was elbows deep in the compost pile. On compost day, the kids had mucked the stall, collected vegetable and fruit scraps, marched in a poop parade, met Walter the worm and spread finished compost in the garden to feed the plants. Many were able to take home a jar of their own finished compost. What a day for the Baby Spinach kids, who were knighted compost kings and queens.
This popular program is a terrific introduction to the great variety of sites and activities in the barnyard.
We sing songs and sow seeds. Children help feed the animals, visit the education garden, explore the woods, create take-home projects and see first-hand the many barns and buildings on the Farm. There are plenty of things new and familiar for these first time farmers.
We offer morning sessions all summer, to better meet the needs of families and the learning experience, and to keep each group at a maximum of 10 children per group.
